Discover P.j. Skidoos

P.j. Skidoos in Fairfax is one of those classic diners that instantly makes you feel at home the moment you walk through the door. Located at 9908 Fairfax Blvd, Fairfax, VA 22030, United States, this spot combines a cozy, nostalgic atmosphere with a menu that balances comfort food staples and creative twists. Having visited multiple times over the past few years, I can confidently say that each visit feels like a mini culinary adventure without leaving the neighborhood.

From the moment you step in, the aroma of fresh pancakes, sizzling bacon, and brewed coffee fills the air. One of my personal go-to experiences is their breakfast platter, which never disappoints. The eggs are cooked exactly how you like them, and the portions are generous enough to leave you satisfied without feeling stuffed. What stands out is the attention to detail-they use fresh, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, which adds a noticeable difference in flavor compared to typical chain diners.

Lunch and dinner offerings are equally enticing. I once tried their famous sandwich lineup after reading several glowing reviews online, and it completely lived up to the hype. The chicken club was stacked high, with perfectly toasted bread and crisp vegetables that added just the right crunch. Their approach to sandwiches is straightforward but expertly executed, reflecting a deep understanding of flavor balance and texture. In a way, this diner demonstrates that simple dishes, when done right, can become unforgettable.

During one visit, I observed the kitchen staff handling multiple orders simultaneously, and their workflow was impressive. Each dish was plated carefully, and the timing was spot-on, even on a busy weekend morning. The owner, who often mingles with guests, shared how they track customer preferences to ensure repeat visits feel personalized-a practice that resonates with anyone who appreciates thoughtful dining experiences. Research supports that diners offering a consistent experience see higher customer satisfaction, and P.j. Skidoos exemplifies this principle perfectly.

Another aspect worth noting is their beverage menu. From freshly squeezed juices to classic milkshakes, everything complements the food without overpowering it. According to the National Restaurant Association, diners who provide diverse drink options see a notable increase in overall customer engagement, which aligns with what I’ve experienced here. The coffee selection is robust, serving as a great start to a morning or a comforting midday pick-me-up.

The diner’s location is ideal for anyone exploring Fairfax. Being right on Fairfax Blvd makes it accessible while still maintaining a small-town charm. Parking is convenient, and the interior seating is arranged in a way that feels spacious yet intimate, perfect for families or casual meetups with friends. Several regulars I spoke with mentioned that this is their weekend staple, which speaks volumes about its reputation within the community.

Even the dessert options reflect the same care and dedication. Their pies and cakes, often homemade, showcase a delicate balance between sweetness and texture. One memorable experience involved their apple pie, served warm with a scoop of ice cream on the side-it was a comforting reminder of why classic diners maintain a devoted following across generations.

Overall, P.j. Skidoos combines the familiarity of a traditional diner with subtle modern touches that elevate the experience. The staff’s friendliness, consistent food quality, and attention to detail make it a standout destination in Fairfax. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick breakfast, a leisurely lunch, or a comforting dinner, this diner delivers on multiple levels, making it an essential part of the local food scene.

  • Went for an early dinner on Sunday. Not that busy. Noise level was loud but we can still talk. Portion also large. I ordered the smallest prime ribs and I couldn’t finish it. There was lots of fat on my prime rib. My friends order steak and frites (fries was too salty for me), and London Broil (this actually delish!). We also had cheese cake for dessert. Next time i will order london broil for myself.

  • Came here for dinner and to try someplace new. The spinach artichoke dip was really good. The meals were good and the service was excellent. There is seating in the front of the restaurant that feels more like a traditional restaurant and then there is also a nice bar area with seating and an outside area as well. Arrived around 6:00 on a Friday and didn't have a wait.

  • I absolutely love this place! They are very consistent across the board with food quality, portion size, and service. The owner definitely cares about his patrons and took a moment to say hello to me as I waited to pick up my carry out order. The only thing that I would ask is that they consider a softer and juicier option (80/20) on their burger meat. It was just ok and not a food item that I would order again unless I knew that they took me up on my recommendation. If they offer a way to get it cooked a certain way other than well done, I welcome the information and may try it again .

  • I have visited this gorgeous restaurant several times. The first time I came here was 15 years ago, and I still return even though I live 45 miles away. I am always impressed by how consistent their service is. Today, I mentioned my loyalty to one of the servers, Delenny. She thanked me for my loyalty , and after a couple of minutes, she brought me a free dessert as a gesture of appreciation. What excellent service! Keep up the good work!

  • We went for the happy hour specials. Those specials are a very good value. Cocktails and beer are priced right. We got calamari, potato skins, artichoke dip all very good. One of us got the shrimp tacos which were also very good. Very fine service. Happy hour is extra long here from 4 to 8.

  • We stopped by on a Friday after playing tennis. Staff was immediately welcoming. Ordered a beer and burger. Fries are excellent. Nice and crispy. Burger was fantastic too.

  • Great steak and cheese subs and was fun coming back here after 20 years. The place has not changed a bit. We used to go to the Sunday brunch when I was a kid. I also went there on Tuesday nights when I went to George Mason. Glad to see the quality of the food is still consistent and the owners are still very nice people that care about their patrons. I will definitely be back before another 20 years
